Marc Christopher Herding Seminar

Porter & I went to a Marc Christopher herding seminar April 26 & 27 at Claudia Frank's farm in Greenfield, OH.

No photos from this trial because there weren't any Q's :(

Porter actually ran really well, he was probably the fastest he's ever been. But that speed caused a lot of knocked bars.

We would have had 2 Open JWW legs if it hadn't been for that.

He got freaked out by the judge in one of our Open Standard runs (he actually came out of the weaves to bark at the guy!). He didn't knock any bars but had too many faults to Q. The other standard run had some weave problems (he ran by them the first time, then popped out, then back-weaved).

We also tried FAST for the first time. I wasn't really sure what we were doing, but we scored 29 points & would have qualified if he had taken the tire in the Bonus. Oh well. It was kind of fun anyway.

Porter & I only ran on Saturday since I had to leave for Orlando on Sunday.

We actually got our first leg in Novice FAST!

Novice FAST was the very last class of the day. Porter was so hot & tired that I was able to send him to the tunnel in the bonus & run all the way behind the jump to call him to me. Of course, the jump was a double, so we wouldn't have got the bonus if he dropped it. Somehow he hoisted himself over it without even touching it.

We scored 56 points & placed maybe 6th.

The rest of his runs were perfect, except for the dropped bars. He was so fast in his JWW run that I was able to even do a couple rear crosses!

Although Porter & I didn't get any Q's the first day in agility, Porter did earn his Canine Good Citizen certificate. I was so proud of him!

He passed with flying colors! He was pretty tired from a full day of agility though...

On day 2 of agility, Porter really showed them what he's made of!

We finally got our Novice JWW title!

And our first leg in Open Standard!

And they even gave us a ribbon for a Double Q!

All of our hard work with the weaves finally paid off! I had been taking those things to a different park in town every night since our NADAC trial disaster. I upgraded his weave pole reward to the nastiest thing they make: tripe. And he nailed those weaves on the first try at the trial. I was so proud of him!

Our first NADAC trial!

I thought I'd enter a NADAC trial so we could get a lot of runs in before the Cardigan Specialty. And they offer a lot of weave classes (which we definitely needed to practice) & fun classes (like tunnelers & anything without weaves!)

We did pretty well in most of the classes:
  • 1st place in Novice Skilled Tunnelers
  • 1st place in Novice Skilled Touch N Go
  • 2nd place in Novice Skilled Regular Round 2

I just like his face in that one!

However we failed spectacularly in anything with weave poles. I actually excused ourselves from the ring a couple times each day.

But even when we didn't qualify, they still gave us ribbons!

Our losing ribbons :(

We also bought a new video camera to film our runs! But it's high definition & so it takes forever to load to YouTube. I'm still working on it...
